Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important official stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
